| Automatic Braking System | |||||||||

The automatic braking system features Sturmey Archer (or Sachs) alloy drum brake hubs which are actuated by a unique mechanism built into the tongue of the trailer. When the towing bicycle begins to slow or stop, the inertia of the trailer pushes it against the bicycle, thus depressing a rod in the actuator which in turn pulls the brake cables and results in a simultaneous slowing or stopping of the trailer. The braking system thus delivers a safe and uniform reduction in speed without noticeable push or pull on the bicycle. This can be an important safety feature with heavier loads, higher speeds, or during emergency stops. Note that these brakes require a solid axle and cannot therefore be equipped with quick release mechanisms. |

An email clipping from a CycleTote owner illustrates the effectiveness of the braking system: "My trailer is the touring model with brakes, which work very well. I tested them with my bike brakes adjusted for heavy drag so they could not lock up. At 15mph and 100lbs in the trailer, stopping distances were: without trailer - 85 feet; with trailer, brakes disconnected - 135 feet; with trailer, brakes connected - 91 feet." |

| Running Stroller Conversion | |||||||||

All CycleTote bicycle trailers, except for the Adult trailers, can be converted into a running stroller. If included with the initial purchase the stroller handle mounts are welded to the trailer frame. If added later the handle mounts are bolted to the frame. The initial welded mounts are preferred. |

Conversion to or from the Running Stroller is quick and easy. Beautiful balance and big wheels make it incredibly easy to push and able to go almost anywhere. When the trailer has the Automatic Braking System (which of course becomes inoperable when the tongue and brake cables are removed for conversion), it is possible to operate the brakes manually with the Running Stroller by fitting brake levers to the stroller handle. |

| Mud Guard | |||||||||

The Mud Guard is a conical piece of the trailer fabric designed to slide down over the trailer tongue when raining or wet. This then covers the back wheel of the bicycle and prevents water (mud) from spattering on the trailer and from causing a stripe up the cyclist's back. |

| Dog Carting (Drafting) | |||||||||

| A tongue (single draft with shafts) is available for pulling any of our trailers (except adult) with a dog, goat, or other drafting animal. Because of their lightness and suitability for various tasks, a CycleTote trailer makes a wonderful carting vehicle. Simply insert the “dog tongue” in place of the “trailer tongue” and use a properly fitting harness. The dog tongue is $100. | |||||||||
| Conversions | |||||||||
All standard sized CycleTote trailers are made with the same frame and can be converted to any other standard sized model. Note, however, that the Family Model which has quick release roll bars will not accept the conversion fabric without some modifications. Call for any conversion prices not listed. |
